MIvsDC : Sanjay Manjrekar Does NOT Agree With Awarding Man of the Match to Jasprit Bumrah; Shares His Reason!

In the IPL 2020 Qualifier 1 match between defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC), fans saw players giving their life for the game. During the match, MI defeated DC to march into their sixth final in history.

After Jasprit Bumrah received the man of the match award for his four-wicket haul, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar backed the batsmen to have received it. He believes that batsmen had a significant role to play in the first qualifier between MI and DC in Dubai. 

Manjrekar observed that one should look at how the game was placed at the half-way stage before deciding on the man of the match award.

He totally acknowledged the outstanding spells by Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult but somehow feels that the batsmen should be getting the award. 

“The match winning impact was made by batsmen. With due respect to Boult & Bumrah, MOM should have been a batsman,” Manjrekar tweeted.  “When adjudicating the MOM award one must look at how the game was placed at the half way stage, MI had almost sealed the game with their batting,” Manjrekar further argued. 

Taking a look at how Delhi Capitals performed, they could not do anything to Mumbai Indians’ power-hitting and brilliant display of bowling that made them face a 57-run loss.

Even after MI lost Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard early, it was Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya who were able to lift their side to 191. 

Meanwhile, Aakash Chopra remained awestruck by their performance during the match. He said that Rohit Sharma’s men are the best T20 franchise in the world. Check out Manjrekar's tweet below:
