The Delhi Capitals who won the toss elected to field first.

Rajasthan Royals lost Samson early for run out but Rahane and Steve Smith batted beautifully as they combined for a classy 130 runs partnership. Ajinkya Rahane after getting dropped on 16(18) by Ishant Sharma, never looked back as he shifted gears after that and took on the bowlers. Captain Steve Smith was very good against spin and pace as he compiled a very good 50 off 32 balls. Once Smith got out, the Royals lost the momentum as they didn't get the other players to finish off well. Rahane went on and got the highest score for a Royals batsman getting to one of the most elegant 105 from 63 balls and took the team to 191 in the 20 overs. Although it was a good score, they were 10-15 runs short after the kind of start they got from Rahane and Smith.

The Delhi Capitals got off to a perfect start with Dhawan smashing the ball to all sides. He got to 54 from 27 balls and took the pressure of Shaw who was struggling for timing. Iyer didn't make much of a contribution this innings, but Rishabh Pant was on a mission tonight. It was a more sensible Pant that we saw today where he didn't try to hit every ball for 6, rather was prepared to run hard between the wickets as well. Shaw although struggling managed to hang around with Pant as he provided good support. They combined for a 84 runs partnership. Although Shaw got out for 42 from 39 balls, Rishabh Pant who was set didn't let the match slip this time as he ended up with an unbeaten 78 off just 36 balls and took the team across the line.

The Delhi Capitals will be happy with the way they bounced back after the Rahane-Smith Partnership and will be delighted with their batting effort. The Rajasthan Royals would feel that they were 10-15 runs short and the bowling unit also let them down barring Archer.
