Will Ravi Shastri Continue? Doubts doing Rounds as BCCI is to invite Fresh Applications
Home > News Shots > Sports newsRavi Shastri, the head coach of Indian Cricket team has been doing the rounds since the exit of the Indian team after the Semi-finals against New Zealand in the WC2019. In fact, the decision to send Rishab Pant ahead of MSD was severely criticized by trackers and fans around the nation. The video where Virat walked out of the dressing room and had a disturbing conversation with Ravi Shastri also went viral on social media.
While the World Cup Review meeting is expected to happen any time soon, Ravi Shastri’s tenure with Indian team ends after the West Indies tour scheduled from August 3 to September 3. Therefore, it is just a month of working period for Ravi Shastri. The support staff including bowling coach Bharat Arun, batting coach Sanjay Bangar and fielding coach R Sridhar were also given a 45-day extension until the completion of West Indies tour.
Ravi Shahstri was appointed as the head coach in 2017 for the Indian team and has won only maiden Test series in Australia earlier this year. It looks like the 57-year-old who was also India's director of cricket from August 2014 to June 2016 will have to re-apply for the position of head coach since BCCI is all set to invite fresh applications in a day or two.
According to a report by NDTV Sports, "The job openings will be put up on our website in a day or two. Besides the support staff, fresh applications will also be invited for the post of team manager," a BCCI official was quoted as saying to PTI. The team will also have new trainer and physio after the departure of Shankar Basu and Patrik Farhat respectively.
While there were few speculations regarding the next head coach for the Indian team, it is less likely that Ravi Shastri will re-apply for the post and appointed again. However, only BCCI has the answer as to who would guide the future Indian team with the T20 World Cup ahead next year.
