Ind VS Ban Day/Night Test: Challenges Posed by "Pink-Ball" for Players Listed
Home > News Shots > Sports newsThe historical Day/Night test match between India and Bangladesh is scheduled at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on November 22. The match will begin at 1.PM as per BCCI and there have been reports that out of the 11 Day/Night International tests played by other nations so far, none of the tests lasted for 5 days. The primary reasons are stated to be the challenges posed by the 'Pink ball' which would be used for Day/Night tests.
Usually "Red-ball' will be used for Test matches but it cannot be used for Day/Night Test matches since Red ball gets faded within 50 overs itself. Therefore, it will be difficult for the players to handle the red ball once the lights are turned on. Considering the drawback of "Red-Ball", International Cricket Council (ICC) introduced "Pink Ball" for Day/Night Tests.
"Pink Balls" shine batter and last long during the Day/Night tests but it has a lot of challenges for the batsmen. The first Day/Night test match was played between Australia Vs New Zealand in 2015 which lasted only for 3 days.
The pink ball swings better than red balls. If pace bowlers could bowl at a perfect line and length, Batsmen will definitely struggle a lot to face the delivery.
Though, there are no differences in the weight and dimensions between 'Red ball' and 'Pink ball', the latter poses serious challenges for the batsmen. Amidst a lot of challenges, we would have to wait and see how Indian players handle the game for the first time. Meanwhile, one of the groundsmen from Eden Garden's was quoted as saying "The soil character of north India is vastly different from that of Eden Gardens. It's probably best-suited for Pink-ball cricket" by TOI.
