Mohammed Siraj Reveals Emotional Message from his Mother that Made Him Stay Back in Australia
Home > News Shots > Sports newsDays after losing his father, India pacer Mohammed Siraj revealed the emotional message from his mother that made him stay back in Australia. Siraj, who lost his father Mohammed Ghouse last week, is currently in Sydney for the upcoming series.
Even after suffering a big loss, the 26-year old has decided to stay back in Australia with Team India. Siraj's father Ghouse passed away on Friday (November 20). He was 53-years-old and has been suffering from a lung ailment.
According to Cricket Addictor report, Ghouse’s health deteriorated while Siraj was playing in IPL 2020 in the UAE. He was then hospitalised while the tournament was on. Even during that time, Siraj had put up a brave face and continued playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Last week, the BCCI revealed that they had offered Siraj the option of flying back to India for the final rites, but the right-arm pacer decided to stay back and continue his preparation for the series.
Amid this big loss in the family, Siraj received some words of encouragement from his mother. He revealed that his mother wanted him to stay in Australia and fulfill his father’s dreams of playing and performing well for the country.
“My father was my biggest support, it’s a big loss for me. My father’s wish was to see me play for India. My mindset is to fulfill his dream. My father is not here in this world but he is with me all the time,” Siraj told BCCI in a video interview.
“My mom reminded me of my father’s dreams. She asked me to stay there and perform well for India and fulfill my father’s dream,” he added. Meanwhile, he also revealed how his teammates supported him like a family during the tough times.
Earlier last month, Siraj grabbed his maiden Test call-up for the upcoming four-match series against Australia. Even skipper Virat Kohli encouraged Siraj to stay strong during this time.
“My teammates have been very supportive, making sure I am not facing any problem here. Virat bhai encouraged me, told me not to take tension and stay strong and focus on fulfilling your dad’s dreams. He told me that staying strong in this situation will help not just me but my family as well,” Siraj said.
