During the ongoing ICC U-19 World Cup, 17-year-old Sri Lankan pacer instantly became internet's favourite after bowling the world-record delivery to Team India.

Despite losing the match, the Sri Lankan team are winning hearts all because of Matheesha Pathirana, the young bowler, who bowled to India’s Yashasvi Jaiswal at a speed of 175 kph. This speed made it to the fastest recorded ball to ever be bowled in international cricket across all levels.

The epic moment took place in the 4th over, when Pathirana bowled a wide delivery to Jaiswal, which was recorded at 175kph (108mph). Soon after umpire signaled a wide, the speed meter recorded the astronomical pace of the delivery.

Even before this Sri Lankan budding star can grab the limelight, former Pakistan speedster Shoaib Akhtar  was the fastest ever who recorded delivery in international cricket at 161.3kph (100mph) in an ODI vs England during the World Cup 2003.

Below are three top fastest balls bowled in the history of international cricket:

- 161.3kph: Shoaib Akhtar, ODI v England in 2003 at Newlands

- 161.1kph: Shaun Tait, ODI v England in 2010 at Lord's

- 161.1kph: Brett Lee, ODI v NZ in 2005 at Napier

After looking at the names above, this shows that the 17-year-old bowler has a new claim to the world record. Meanwhile, what his bowling style and video here:
