One of the world's wealthiest football clubs, Manchester City has been banned from the Champions League for the next two seasons. This league is Europe’s most prestigious club football competition.

The UEFA, European football’s governing body, announced that such an act was taken up over alleged breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. The UEFA in a statement said that the English giants had committed "serious breaches" of the rules.

According to Financial Times reports, A UEFA  adjudicatory panel decided that the club should be banned from the Champions League for the next two seasons and also been fined £25million.

Manchester City stated it was “disappointed but not surprised” by UEFA's decision.

Hours after the ban, the Manchester City in a statement said, "Manchester City is disappointed but not surprised by today’s announcement by the UEFA Adjudicatory Chamber. The club has always anticipated the ultimate need to seek out an independent body and process to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence in support of its position."

This ban comes a day before, Manchester City locking horns against Real Madrid in the Champions League on February 16.
