Virat Kohli beats MS Dhoni; fastest to score 5,000 ODI runs as captain
Home > News Shots > Sports newsThe Sunday match between India and Australia gave a lot to cheer about for fans. Now, news has come in that Virat Kohli has become the fastest to score 5,000 runs in ODI cricket as captain of a side. Kohli reached this landmark with a shot past cover for four off Mitchell Starc during the third ODI against Australia at the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
While former captain MS Dhoni took about 127 innings, Kohli has done it in just 82 innings. There are followed by former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting and South African Graeme Smith, who achieved their respective feats in 131 and 135 innings, respectively. Present BCCI president Sourav Ganguly rounds up the top 5, having achieved the feat in 136 innings.
Kohli’s victory came during India's chase of a target of 287 set by Australia earlier in the day. The series is levelled at 1-1 with India having won the second ODI in Rajkot on Friday. India is looking to avoid a second consecutive ODI series defeat at home to Australia.
