Mumbai Indians won the toss and elected to field first.

Batting first, the KKR had a great start with the bat as Chris Lynn and Shubman Gill got a 96 runs partnership at the top. Chris Lynn got out for 54 from 29 balls and after that kind of a partnership at the top, Andre Russell came out to bat at number 3 after all that debate in the media. He had a slow start by his standards as he got 30 runs off 23 balls at the 17 over mark. During this time, Gill played a classy innings as he timed the ball very well getting to 76 from just 45 balls. Russell then got back to his best in the last three overs as he took on the bowlers and finished with an unbeaten 80 off just 40 balls. Captain Dinesh Karthik got a few away towards the end as well finishing with 15 off just 7 balls. It was a complete batting performance from KKR as they got to 232/2 in the 20 overs and this is the highest total in this years IPL.

Chasing a mammoth total, the Mumbai Indians had to get off to a good start but that didn't happen as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. After 8.2 overs, the Mumbai Indians were struggling at 58/4 and looked like they were completely out of the game. From there on Hardik Pandya came in and started striking the ball as cleanly as possible. Pollard and Krunal Pandya hung around with Hardik Pandya who hit the fastest 50 of the tournament and looked like he could pull off a miracle. He finally fell for 91 off just 34 balls and fell in the 18th overs. Once he got out, KKR were back on top as they ended up winning by 34 runs.

KKR after losing 6 matches in a row have come back strongly in their last home game winning comprehensively and this is also their 100th win as a franchise. This win keeps KKR alive in this tournament which is great news for the fans.
