India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah picked up his 50th Test Wicket on Day 2 of the 1st Test against West Indies thereby surpassing off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in reaching the 50 wickets mark from fewest deliveries. While Bumrah took 2,464 deliveries to register his 50th wicket, Ashwin had taken 2,597 deliveries.

However, in terms of matches and innings, Ashwin still retains the top spot. It took 11 matches and 21 innings for Bumrah to mark his 50th, while Ashwin needed just 9 matches and 16 innings. Bumrah joined spinners Narendra Hirwani and Harbhajan Singh on the list who both took 11 matches to achieve the milestone.  Hirwani had taken 19 innings while Bumrah and Harbhajan have taken 21.

Among the fast bowlers, Bumrah became the fastest to 50 Test wickets both in terms of matches and innings beating Mohammed Shami and Venkatesh Prasad.

Though Bumrah has made his way into the record books, ‘that’ one player who stole the show was Ishant Sharma. The 30-year-old took five wickets on the second day of the first Test in Antigua on Friday.
