From 8.40 Crores to 4 Crores- Varun Chakravarthy's IPL Value
Home > News Shots > Sports newsVarun Chakravarthy who is known for his knocks in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) had to really fight in his career to pursue his cricketing career. Though he played tennis ball cricket during his early years, after completing 12th grade he enrolled for Architecture studies. Then he worked for 2 years and he also stopped watching cricket for 7 years.
It was only when he turned 25, he realized that he wanted to play cricket ( Meanwhile he was playing for league matches representing corporates). The decision made him resign his job and take up Cricket as his full-time profession not worrying about the income. It is said that his parents also supported his decision.
After a lot of ups and downs in Divison matches, Ranji trophy and TNPL, Varun was picked by KXIP headed by Ashwin in 2019 for a whopping price of 8.40 crores. Unfortunately, he suffered injuries and played just one match in IPL 2019. He conceded 35 runs in 3 overs and picked just 1 wicket. Due to the injuries, he was dropped from the team.
Varun again faced criticisms in local league matches and finally, with the help of Dinesh Karthik, he was selected for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in IPL 2020 auction for 4 crores. In a recent video, Varun expressed his gratitude for KKR and Dinesh Karthik.
