IPL 2020 Update Is HERE! 13th Season Will Be Held But With Condition Apply: Check Details
Home > News Shots > Sports newsAfter days of wait and discussion, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has more or less decided to host the event in United Arab Emirates (UAE) during October and November.
This move will only be taken subject to government clearance and the International Cricket Council (ICC) announcing the postponement of the T20 World Cup which was scheduled to be held in Australia.
During yesterday's Council meeting, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah apprised the members. They spoke on various tops from international to domestic cricket.
As per Indian Express report, once the T20 World Cup, which was supposed to be held duing the same time gets officially postponed, the BCCI will then approach the Indian government to check if they can host the IPL in India. Also, keeping in mind the situation in the country over COVID-19 pandemic, if things are worse, then they will shift the IPL to the UAE.
Picking UAE to host the IPL 2020 was decided, as BCCI believes that this country is already a travel hub and is well connected. The BCCI is also now targeting a shortened window of 5 to 6 weeks for IPL 2020 provided the T20 World Cup is postponed.
During the meeting, the board also informed that no domestic cricket would be held until December. Also, the board does not want to taking any hasty decision on its domestic calendar.
Looking into domestic cricket in the country, tournaments like Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy and Challengers series will be abandoned while other age-group tournaments will also be on the same page. BCCI further stated that, not just domestic cricket, but even international games are likely to be played at home this year.
