Former Indian Captain MS Dhoni stepped down from captaincy from limited-over matches last year.

Dhoni retired from Tests in 2014 and handed over the responsibility to Virat Kohli. Kohli immediately led India to victory in the ODI and Test series against England. He finally revealed the reason behind his stepping down.

Speaking to the media, Dhoni revealed that he stepped down to give the new skipper enough time to prepare for the upcoming 2019 World Cup in England. Dhoni was quoted as saying, "I resigned from captaincy because I wanted the new captain to get enough time for preparing a team before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019."

Dhoni further added, "Selecting a strong team without giving the new captain appropriate time isn't possible. I believe that I left the captaincy at the right time."
