BCCI President Ganguly had pointed out earlier last week that the Asia Cup is cancelled for 2020. Substantiating his statement, the official confirmation arrived.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) on Thursday, confirmed that the series will be postponed to June 2021. "Travel restrictions, country-specific quarantine requirements, fundamental health risks, and social distancing mandates have posed as substantial challenges to holding the Asia Cup," read a statement from the ACC. "Above all, the risks related to health and safety of participating players, support staff and commercial partners, fans and the cricketing community were deemed to be significant."

This tournament was earlier scheduled to be played in September, at Sri Lanka after the Pakistan Cricket Board offered to swap the rights to host, following the coronavirus pandemic.

Hence, Sri Lanka is set to host the Asia Cup in 2021. Further, Pakistan has been awarded the rights to host in 2022.

Earlier, Pakistan Cricket Board slammed Ganguly for publicly announcing that Asia Cup 2020 was cancelled before the ACC did. They added that Ganguly’s comments held no weightage and that the official confirmation has to only come from the Asian Cricket Council board.
