BCCI Reveals about Tournaments Happening this Year Other than IPL2020!
Home > News Shots > Sports news The Board of Control for Cricket in India has been looking at the possibility of holding tournaments and leagues this year. The Indian Premier League (IPL) was also only scheduled for September after being postponed due to the global pandemic.
Unfortunately it is now made known that unlike the IPL other Indian domestic tournaments will not be conducted this year. Domestic tournaments including Ranji and Duleep Trophy, Deodhar Trophy, U-23 CK Nayudu Trophy, among the others cannot be conducted this year. Although the formal decision is yet to arrive, a report by Times of India affirmatively states that the other premier domestic tournaments will not be held in 2020.
TOI quoted a source saying, “In certain states, its bad. In other states, its worse. The numbers are unrelenting. In such a scenario, how does one plan anything over a period of three or four months, when you’re not sure what’s in store tomorrow?”
Earlier, BCCI President, Ganguly had produced a roadmap for resuming domestic cricket in the country. However, the source added, “The intent was always there by circumstances haven’t really changed. Ganguly’s letter was a little too early in the day.” Conducting these domestic leagues might put thousands of cricketers across various age-groups at a risk and hence the board has decided to pass.
State associations have also substantiated and said, “The sorry bit is that those responsible for domestic cricket in India should have seen it coming long ago. What were they waiting for all this while?”
