Indian Cricketer Honoured With 'Title'; Tamil Cricket Fans Super Excited!
Home > News Shots > Sports newsCricket fans got a good news on Friendship Day after team India's off-spinner player R Ashwin was named as Professional Cricketers Association's (PCA) Player for the month of July 2019.
This title was awarded to him for his consistent performances in the county championships.
Earlier this month, Ashwin has represented Nottinghamshire, where he contributed both with bat and ball for the team. In total, he has made 197 runs and picked up 23 wickets from just 3 matches. He is currently playing for Tamil Nadu Premier League T20 competition.
As per India Today reports, the official website of PCA, "Ashwin received a massive 61 percent of the supporters' vote, well clear of Middlesex's Dawid Malan (19.7 percent) in second, Yorkshire's Keshav Maharaj (11 percent) in third and Malan's teammate Toby Roland-Jones (8.4 percent) in fourth in the 4-man shortlist."
"Ashwin won 81.53 MVP points for his efforts of 12/144 against Surrey, the most of any player in a single game this season. Warwickshire's Jeetan Patel is a distant second with 60.98," the PCA said.
When asked about his success and title, Ashwin was quoted saying to PCA website, "I am delighted to receive this award. I love playing county cricket and really enjoy being a part of the Nottinghamshire dressing room."
"I look forward to returning in September and playing the remainder of the season for Nottinghamshire," Ashwin added.
