Indian Railways has announced that passengers carrying extra luggage on train journeys will be charged.

In India, people from all walks of life travel by train. There are plenty of facilities available for passengers on train journeys. So people from all walks of life are using trains for long distance and short distance journeys.

In this case, Indian Railways has introduced a fare system for rail travel, just as it charges for luggage in addition to air travel.

Train passengers have been informed how much luggage they can carry with them for free. Previously this fare procedure was on private trains like Tejas. It is currently being rolled out to all trains.

Of which, AC First Class - 70 kg, AC 2-Tire Sleeper / First Class - 50 kg, AC 3 - Tire Sleeper / AC Add Car - 40 kg, Sleeper Class - 40 kg, Second Class - 35 kg can be taken for free.

Apart from this, it has been informed that each passenger can carry a maximum of 150 kg of AC first class, 100 kg of AC 2-tier sleeper / first class, 80 kg of sleeper class and 70 kg of second class by paying for luggage. This maximum weight is also said to include weight for free luggage.

Also, booking for this extra luggage can be done by passengers up to 30 minutes before the train departure at the luggage booking office. Similarly, Indian Railways has said that passengers can pay for their luggage at the time of booking a train ticket.
