Women journalists not so innocent to be misused: BJP leader

Pressure has been mounting on Modi government to sack MJ Akbar as a junior minister from the former's cabinet ever since accusations of severe sexual misconduct arose against him, levelled by eight to nine women on social media as part of the me too campaign.

Earlier, Smriti Irani said that the gentlemen in question should answer the allegations and added that women who speak up must not be victimised or mocked. Maneka Gandhi called for an enquiry saying that men in power are prone to assaulting women sexually. But most others like Sushma Swaraj had stayed silent on the issue neither coming to his rescue nor admonishing him.

Now a BJP neta Lata Kelkar has stirred a hornet’s nest by saying that women journalists aren’t so innocent after all for anyone to take advantage of them.  Predictably, her statement came in for a lot of criticism especially on social media.
