Worried Mother Rides For 1,400 Kms on Two-Wheeler To Rescue Stranded Son
Home > News Shots > India newsAmid the nationwide lockdown, a woman in Telangana left home on a scooter and rode for nearly 1,400 km to bring her stranded son home from Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The woman identified as, Razia Begum, 48, rode for over three days with local police permission.
The woman went alone on the bike to Nellore, as she feared police might mistake her elder son for a joy rider and detain him. Her act of love and bravery shocked the city and state police.
While speaking to news agency PTI, Begum said, "It was a difficult journey on a small two-wheeler for a woman. But the determination to bring my son back overtook all my fears. I packed rotis and they kept me going. It was fearsome in the nights with no traffic movement and no people on roads."
Begum, is a headmistress at a government school in Nizamabad. She lost her husband 15 years ago and lived with her two sons. Her younger son, 19-year old Nizamuddin, had gone to Rahamatabad in Nellore on March 12 to drop his friend and stayed back there. After the lockdown was announced, it became difficult for him to return.
Days after he could not return, worried mother decided to get him herself. She began her journey on April 6, and reached Nellore the next day afternoon. Within that day itself, she left for home town along with her son.
When media asked her, what did she eat along the way, she said, she packed few "rotis" for the road and stopped at fuel stations for water and filling petrol.
