Mother of two, Burns Herself over an Issue of Smartphone!

A 29- year old woman immolated herself after a fight with her husband. They fought since her husband was refusing to buy a new smartphone for their children’s online classes. They are residents of South Delhi’s Maidan Garhi area.

The woman was identified as Jyoti Mishra. She was insisting her husband to buy smartphone for her children since the Delhi government started taking online classes due to the coronavirus outbreak. The elder child is a 6-year- old while the younger one is 4 years old. 

Reportedly, the police received information through a call on Wednesday morning that a woman has burnt herself. A police team reached the spot and found out that she has been taken to the Safdarjung Hospital. "A matchstick and a plastic can were found on the spot," a police officer told the media. 

Other family members were present there at the time of the incident, the police officer added.

“Police said that they have recorded the statements of the affected woman's husband Parmod Mishra, her brother Chandra Shekhar Pandey and her neighbour Munna Sharma. So far, suspicion of any foul play has not been raised by anyone,” Times Now cited in its report. 

Jyoti who has suffered 90 per cent burn injuries told in her statement that she had an argument over buying a new mobile phone for the kids. When he refused, she got upset, she burnt herself after pouring kerosene oil. 

As per media reports, an enquiry under Section 174 of CrPc has been initiated.
