In a heart touching gesture, Amethi MP and BJP leader Smriti Irani on Sunday rushed hours after her close aide was shot dead on Saturday night. The 50-year-old Surendra Singh, an ex-village head of Barauli, was shot dead by unknown assailants at his residence.

On hearing the news, the newly-elected MP lent a shoulder to mortal remains of her close aide Singh. He was frequently seen with Irani campaigning for her during Lok Sabha elections. The incident took place two days after Irani won Amethi Lok Sabha constituency seat.

According to Catch News, family members of Singh have put the blame on Congress workers, saying, "BJP got many votes from our booth. "My father was a close aide of Smriti Irani and used to campaign 24/7. After she became MP, Vijay Yatra was carried out. I think some Congress supporters didn't like it, we have suspicions on some people," said son of Surendra Singh.

Further according to PTI reports, a bike-borne on Saturday night reached his residence and fired indiscriminately at him. He was also shot on his face. “50-year-old Singh was referred to a government hospital in Lucknow but later succumbed to his injuries while he was getting treated,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Daya Ram. The police have registered a case and investigation are on in this matter.
