A series of unfortunate events have unfolded in Punjab after the nation-wide lockdown was imposed on March 25. Earlier, a policeman’s arm was chopped off by a group at a vegetable market and that is now being followed by a citizen driving a car which dragged the policeman who tried to stop the vehicle, onto the bonnet.

A very shocking video was posted earlier today, from Jalandhar which streamed for 90 seconds. The visuals show a policeman, holding on to his dear life while he clings on to the bonnet of the car, which the accused continued to drive. A few concerned citizens and policemen, can be seen running behind the car. A 20-year old was driving the car, who was made to step outside the car by the policemen, after the car halted. He was then thrashed by the police and taken to the police station.

In a tweet, Punjab’s state police Chief, Dinkar Gupta said that "Punjab Police has a 'zero tolerance policy' against such acts".

"The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police has booked a youth and his father for almost running over an Ertiga car over Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, who had tried to stop him at a naka in the city during the curfew on Saturday morning," an official statement by the Jalandhar Police read. "The speeding car almost ran over Assistant sub Inspector of Police Mulkh Raj who was on duty," it said, adding that the policeman managed to save his life by jumping on the bonnet of the car. The statement also included that the accused broke the barricade and sped up when he was asked to halt.

Both the accused youth and his father have now been booked with the case of attempt to murder.
