Around noon on Saturday, a mixer tanker travelling from Maharashtra to Lucknow, carried as many as 18 migrant workers back to their villages. Since travelling between states have been extremely difficult since the lockdown was imposed on March 05 by the central government, migrant workers have been protesting in states like Maharashtra. While some migrant workers walked long distances to reach their home towns, some others have been grasping at straws for an opportunity to present itself.

These 18 workers, each with a small bag of their belongings had begun their journey to their villages in a hard to breathe container. However, they were caught midway by the police officials after which an FIR has been filed. “They were travelling from Maharashtra to Lucknow. The truck has been sent to a police station and an FIR has been registered,” Deputy Superintendent of Police, Umakant Chaudhary was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

In a spine-chilling video that was recorded, the workers can be seen coming out of a small hole of the tanker.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) earlier this week, announced that the movement of migrant workers, students, and tourists stranded in other states will be allowed, but under strict conditions. While all those who transcend borders will be screened, only those who are asymptomatic will b permitted.

Adding to this, several states have been taking active measures to being back their students and tourists stranded in foreign states. However, that has not been the case with migrant workers because of which such extreme decisions are being made by the population who are among the worst-hit in the country.
