The municipal corporation of Vadodara, Gujarat, has imposed a temporary ban on the sale of pani puris, because of the unhygienic method of its preparation.

The move comes during the monsoon season when people are more susceptible to diseases. The civic body said that the consumption of pani puris made in unhygienic fashion was leading to the spread of diseases like typhoid, jaundice and food poisoning in the city.

At least 50 manufacturers of pani puris were raided, with 4,000 kgs puris, 3,500 kgs potatoes and chana, and 1,200 litres of acidic water being thrown.
