Uttar Pradesh’s Minister Succumbed to COVID-19; State in Mourning! – Report

Uttar Pradesh’s minister Kamal Rani Varun, who had tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection on Sunday succumbed to the infection. She is the first minister in UP to die after contracting the virus.
“She was put on life support system. Despite the best efforts of doctors, she passed away today,” said an official. “Kamal Rani Varun respected public aspirations as a minister. As a minister, she made commendable contribution in efficiently discharging departmental functions. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed grief over the demise of the minister,” read a statement issued by the state government. On Twitter, Yogi Adityanath tweeted, “The news of untimely death of my colleague in the UP government, cabinet minister Kamal Rani Varun is saddening. The state today lost a dedicated leader. My condolences are to her family. May the almighty let her rest at their feet. Om Shanti.”
UP’s state government has announced a state mourning upon her death and all the flags in the district are to be lowered. She is to be cremated with police honour.
“Her death is an irreparable loss to the society and the government. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while paying a humble tribute, expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” read a tweet from the CM’s office.
