UGC's important Announcement on College Final Year Exams - Check for details
Home > News Shots > India newsOne of the University Grants Commission (UGC) committees has recommended government to cancel exams for final year students in colleges and institutes of higher education across the country. The committee has recommended government to assess their performance based on the previous semester examinations and internal assessments.
The committee was formed by higher education regulator in order to suggest alternate ways of evaluation since it is difficult for universities to conduct examinations during the pandemic.
The panel was headed by Haryana University vice-chancellor R C Kuhad. He said that the examination which is due in july in most universities as per the academic calendar, cannot be held due to the high risk of exposure too lakhs of students.
As per media reports, the UGC will be releasing comprehensive guidelines for higher education based on the recommendations.
“The recommendations are meant to guide over 40 central universities and hundreds of state, private and deemed to be universities and colleges. The UGC panel has also recommended that the new session planned in July for old students and in August for fresh batches should be deferred to October,” The New Indian Express cited in its report.
