The University Grants Commission (UGC) has reportedly ordered universities and higher education institutes to ban the sale of junk foods on campus. The order comes after a directive from the Human Resources Department.
In a communication to universities, the UGC reportedly stated, "Banning junk food in colleges will set new standards for healthy food, making the students live better, learn better and reduce obesity levels. This will prevent lifestyle diseases which have a direct link with excessive weight."
The UGC issued the letter to all vice chancellors of the universities. It requested them to strictly adhere to the guidelines stated in an advisory issued in November 2016 for banning junk food in colleges.
