Man, teen daughter help avert major train accident
Home > News Shots > India newsA 45-year-old man and his teen daughter helped the railways to avert a major train accident in Tripura on June 15. Swapan Debbarman and his daughter Somati waved white clothes when the Agartala-Dharmanagar passenger train was running near Agartala. Train driver Narayan Debnath and his assistant Sonu Kumar sensed a trouble and brought the train to halt.
The train was halted in the landslide-hit stretch between Tripura’s Mungiakami and Ambassa railway stations. There were about 800 people on board the train. The Tripura Assembly reportedly praised the man and his daughter for showing hundreds of lives.
While the railways' authorities are considering to recommend the names of the loco pilot and his assistant for an award, state minister Sudip Roy Barman requested CM Biplab Deb to recommend the names of Debbarman and his daughter to the Centre and the Railways Ministry for help and reward.
