Recently, while attending the promotions of her upcoming film Panga, which is set for release tomorrow (January 23, 2020), Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut was asked about senior advocate Indira Jaising’s opinion that Nirbhaya’s parents forgive the convicts who brutally gangraped her daughter and not ask for death penalty; the actor sharply retorted and said, ““That lady (Jaising) should be kept in jail with those convicts for four days. She needs it. Women like them give birth to these kind of monsters and murderers. It’s women like these who sympathise with such murderers.”

Nirbhaya’s mother, Asha Devi too had reacted strongly to the senior advocate’s opinion and had said, “Who is Indira Jaising to give me such a suggestion? The whole country wants the convicts to be executed. Just because of people like her, justice is not done with rape victims.”

"Can't believe how Indira Jaising even dared to suggest such this. I met her many times over the years in Supreme Court, not once did she ask for my wellbeing and today she is speaking for convicts. Such people make a living by supporting rapists, hence rape incidents don't stop," she further added.

The convicts in the Nirbhaya case – Mukesh Singh, Pawan Gupta, Akshay Thakur and Vinay Sharma – are set to be hanged on February 1, 2020, at Tihar jail. The quartet was handed a death sentence earlier this month for brutally gangraping a 23-year-old physiotherapy student in a moving bus in Delhi in 2012. The student, christened ‘Nirbhaya’ by the media, breathed her last 13 days later at Mount Elizabeth Hospital, Singapore.
