A study by the University of California-Santa Cruz has found that Indian children have a higher acceptance of different religions. It was found that children believed that people from different religion should follow their own practices and norms.

The study's co-author Audun Dahl stated that it was impressive that in a country of high religious tension, children believed in freedom of religion. He reportedly said, "Children expressed preferences for their own religion, but we found no evidence of children rejecting the norms of the other religion."

Reportedly, the findings helped give hope that religious conflicts need not bring about a sense of negativity in children's hearts. This could even help reduce conflict in the longer run.
