After the autopsy report, it revealed that the 64-year-old cricketer's death was due to a head injury that later made the local police to arrest his son Aswin Thampi. As per a New Indian Express report, cricketer Jayamohan was found lying dead in the hall of the house on June 8 after which the people staying on rent sensed a stench coming from the ground floor.

Meanwhile, Aswin, who stayed with Jayamohan in the house, told the police that he did not notice his father dead as he used to sleep on the floor. When the police started enquiring, they grew suspicious of Aswin's story because Jayamohan’s death happened almost 36 hours when neighbours noticed the smell and body. Also, before spotting the body there was no one other than Aswin in the house.

The police further said, the father and son used to consume alcohol together regularly. On June 6, while having drinks at night, the two had a brawl after which Aswin pushed his father to the ground. In that fall, Jayamohan allegedly hit his head and face.

“Aswin wanted more liquor, but Jayamohan turned down his request. This led to the brawl and culminated in the murder,” the police said.

The police have invoked Section 302 of IPC (murder) against against Aswin. He is a chef by profession and has not been working for a while now. Though being married, he was staying separate as his wife left him owing to his addiction to alcohol.
