There have been days where Public Interest Litigations (PILs) have been filed for noble causes. However, in a bizarre incident, a lawyer filed a PIL and was even fined by the Supreme Court for it.

Lawyer Asok Pande wanted the Supreme Court the marriage age of men to be lowered from 21 to 18 years. Reportedly, the SC dismissed Pande's PIL on October 22 and even slapped a fine of Rs 25,000 on him. The SC ruled that there was no merit in the petition.

PILs can be used for good causes. However, filing frivolous PILs can backfire at the lawyer. Reportedly, in 2017 the SC had slapped a fine of Rs 1 lakh on a lawyer who had filed a 160-page PIL demanding colonial laws to be scrapped.
