'RSS' Officials discussed with ‘Netflix’ and ‘Amazon Prime’ authorities!
Home > News Shots > India newsThere has been a widespread outburst from Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headed by Mohan Bhagwat against the number of web series being streamed on Netflix and Amazon. The online streaming wave attracted majority of a mainstream audience which apparently created a massive viewership base for streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Reportedly senior officials of RSS met Online Curated Content Providers (OCCP) which include Netflix and Amazon Prime to request the limitation of content that opposes the ideologies of RSS.
As per News 7, RSS voiced out their opinion by using the label Anti-National and Anti-Hindu web series claiming that such content offends the sovereignty of India. Further, RSS suggested not to endorse the content that opposes India's stand on Kashmir scenario ( abolishment of article 370).
Recently, Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar told that talks are underway to assign censorship for online content. In the brief meeting with Netflix and Amazon, RSS clarified its stand and requested the streaming platforms to allow content that does not offend RSS which they claim to be the ideologies of India as well. The Netflix authorities rejected to comment on the meeting held with RSS.
Some of the web series that created controversies on Netflix include Sacred Games, Maya 2, Lust Stories, Article 17 and Laila. It has to be mentioned that RSS groups protested against "Laila" recently stating that it offends their ideologies and beliefs.
