Rickshaw Driver Attempts Suicide After Being Challaned Rs 18,000

Few try to pay the amount and get away with it while many have stopped using their two wheeler or four. But this news shocked everyone on social media where a rickshaw driver who tried to commit suicide by drinking phenyl after he was challaned of Rs 18,000 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
He took this drastic step after he failed to pay the penalty amount, which was even more than he earns in a month.
According to India Times, the man has been identified as Raju Solanki, who is currently admitted in a hospital. Due to his financial condition, he is unable to pay the amount.
His rickshaw has been taken away by the police and will only be given after he pays the penalty amount. This news totally shocked Raju and following which he tried to commit suicide.
While speaking to media he said, "I am unable to go to work as my rickshaw has been confiscated." He is a B.Com graduate but could not fine a job, hence he became a rickshaw driver.
Below is the revised penalties mentioned under the Motor Vehicle Act:
- Over Speeding - Rs 1000 to Rs 4000
-Driving without insurance - Rs 2000 to Rs 4000 and/or imprisonment
-Driving without helmet - Rs 1000 + 3-months license suspension
-Under-age driving - Up to Rs 25,000 and 3-year imprisonment
-Disobedience of the orders of authorities - Rs 2000
-Unauthorised use of vehicles without a licence - Rs 5000
-Driving despite disqualification - Rs 10,000
-Dangerous driving - Rs 5000
-Drunken driving - Rs 10,000
-Driving without seat belts - Rs 1000
-Overloading of vehicles - Rs 20,000
