Heart-Warming! Police Station Turns Into Classroom For Slum Kids
Home > India newsIn a heart-warming initiative, the Rohini South police station room has turned into a classroom for slum children. Inspector Jagminder Singh, the Station House Officer, has opened the doors of the police station for children to come and study and also provided them the essential stationary required.
According to a report in Times of India (TOI), the slum children were accompanied by their 20-year-old tutor Sandeep Bohat. Over a year ago, Bohat took an initiative to educate 40 slum children and began teaching them for free in a park. Reportedly, inspector Singh decided to help the children and gave them a classroom in the police station.
This move could possibly mean more girls attending school. Parents, who were earlier reluctant to send their girls to attend school in a park for safety purposes, would hopefully agree to send them as police stations are far safer.
As per the TOI report, Bohat mentioned that when he began the initiative, he never thought so many people would turn up to help him. Bohat has not only been helping the slum children to study but TOI claimed that he also got two toilets constructed in the slum for women.
