Man who cancelled Zomato order over "non-hindu" delivery boy gets into trouble - Police gets in action

A man recently tweeted Zomato that he has cancelled an order over "non-hindu" delivery executive and got schooled by Zomato. He has now gotten into trouble as Jabalpur police have sought a written undertaking from the man.

Amit Shukla, a Zomato customer, tweeted on Wednesday that "“Just cancelled an order on @ZomatoIN they allocated a non Hindu rider for my food they said they can’t change rider and can’t refund on cancellation I said you can’t force me to take a delivery I don’t want don’t refund just cancel."

To which Zomato replied "“Food doesn’t have a religion. It is a religion," and stood its ground refusing to change the executive.

Zomato founder Deepinder Goyal responded saying “We are proud of the idea of India - and the diversity of our esteemed customers and partners. We aren’t sorry to lose any business that comes in the way of our values."

Soon this exchange went viral with many people including Uber Eats supporting Zomato. They also faced backlash as Zomatouninstalled, BoycottZomato and BoycottUberEats were trending on Twitter.

“I called the person who had placed the order to know the location of his house. But he said he had cancelled the order," said the delivery executive and said that he felt hurt by it, reports Hindustan Times.

“We are going to send a notice to the man to explain his conduct. If it is true, it amounts to hurting religious sentiments of people. This is a crime," said SP of Jabalpur, MP. He said that no one lodged a complaint.

Amit Shukla justified his action saying “It’s a question of my personal religion. They should honour it. It is the holy month of Shravan for us. I am observing fast. That’s why I ordered the food from a vegetarian restaurant. I just made a request to Zomato to change the delivery boy but they didn’t do. I don’t think, I have committed any crime.”
