Petrol and diesel prices have been on a constant rise all over the country for the past few days. On Monday, the prices reached a record high in the four metropolitan cities, including Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata and New Delhi.
Chennai saw a 32 paise hike in petrol prices. On Sunday petrol was priced at Rs 81.92 per litre and in just a day it rose to Rs 82.24 per litre. In the national capital, Delhi, petrol prices went up to Rs 79.15 per litre. In Mumbai and Kolkata, the prices hiked to Rs 86.56 and Rs 82.06 per litre respectively.
Diesel prices saw an even sharper hike in prices. On Monday, diesel prices went up by 42 paise in both Chennai and Mumbai, with prices at Rs 75.54 in Mumbai and Rs 75.19 in Chennai.
The spike in fuel prices comes alongside the devaluation of the rupee against the US dollar. The rupee was valued at Rs 70.83 against the US dollar on Monday.
