Religion and culture is something we Indians cherish. Our festivals are an opportunity to display our cultural learnings and vibrant traditions. However, some seem to take it in a different tone.

After the infamous Jallikattu controversy, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has landed themselves into controversy again. A tweet by PETA India on the occasion of Krishna Jayanti/Janmashtami, has not gone down well with people.

"Celebrate the joyous occasion of Janmashtami by using vegan ghee and other non-dairy products to keep cows happy too," PETA India posted on Twitter.  As the news started spreading, Twitterati lost their collection calm, and hit out at the organisation. Some even went on to call them anti-Hindu.

Trouble mounted for PETA India when enraged Twitter users started slamming the organisation using #BanPeta.  Many even went on to block their page on Twitter. The hashtag started gaining traction and was trending since last evening.

Here are some of the reactions to PETA India's tweet
