Home > News Shots > India newsIn a shocking case, a brave dog fought a leopard after it was attacked outside a home during the coronavirus lockdown in Gujarat's Una city. This incident took place on April 10, amid reports of wild animals roaming in the streets due to lack of human presence around the city.
This horrifying incident happened at Mahesh Bamania's bungalow where a leopard, who climbed the gate in the middle of the night attacked the pet dog. The attack was captured by a CCTV camera placed near the entrance of the house.
In the video, the dog is seen sleeping in the yard when a noise alerts him and he wakes up to see a leopard in front of him. Within minutes, the huge leopard pounces on the dog and pins him down by the throat. Meanwhile, the dog can be seen wrestling with the huge cat and trying to get himself loose for more than 15 seconds.
However, a car which was passing by scared the leopard, who left the dog and jumped over the wall. When media contacted Bamania, he said: "It is the first time that I have realised that my house is prone to visit from big cats."
Soon after the incident went viral, Bamania told Times of India (ToI) that he had alerted the forest department. Meanwhile, Forest officer for Nava Bandar Vira Chawda said, "The moment we received a complaint, we set up a cage with a live bait in it. The leopard entered the cage, lured by the bait, and got trapped." It is still not clear whether the dog survived the attack or not.
