Corporate Senior Officials Trapped Via Online Dating App
Home > News Shots > India newsClose to 50 senior officials of multinational and homegrown companies were honey-trapped by a gang for gay, bisexual and transgenders via online dating app, reports TOI.
The incident happened in Gurugram, Haryana where 5 members were arrested by Inspector Mukesh regarding the case. The gang had targeted numbers of cash-rich corporate senior officials and extorted money including other valuables after setting-up a private meeting with them.
Reportedly most of the victims did not lodge a police complaint fearing that their image would be tarnished in the society. In fact, the gang had specifically targeted such higher officials assuming that they would not share their experiences with others.
Finally, one victim filed a complaint and registered his statement during the police investigation. "I got a request on the site and they called me to Southern Peripheral Road. Then, they made me sit in the front seat next to a man who identified himself as prince. Three men seated themselves in the rear seat and moments later, they snatched my wallet and bag and withdrew money from bank account," the complainant told the police as per the report.
Inspector Mukesh revealed the statement of the gang leader saying, "The Kingpin told us he had got the idea from a friend and then formed a gang to execute it. We are sure more people have been targeted by the gang in a similar manner. So, far only one person has come forward to lodge a complaint".
The arrested gang members were booked under sections 379 A and 34 of the IPC which accounts to act of theft and acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention.
The TOI report says that the gang members hired engineers with good English speaking skills to communicate with the corporate officials. Though the details of the officials were not mentioned on the profiles, the gang managed to tap on rich high profile members on the app.
