Watch Video: Nirmala Sitharaman stops car, meets woman who throws paper at her
Home > News Shots > India newsUnion Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who was on a visit to Karnataka in the flood affected areas; was shocked to know that a woman had thrown a paper at her convoy. This incident took place in Karnataka's Belgavi district.
Soon following this action, Sitharaman personally stopped her car and met the local woman who was distressed over the reconstruction of her house after being destroyed in the floods.
As per Republic World report, a video from that moment was captured when Sitharaman's car was passing by the village. Minutes later, Finance Minister asked her convoy to head back to the woman as she wanted to meet her personally.
She herself got down from the vehicle and assured the flood victim that her house would be constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Republic World further reported.
After reading the letter, Sitharaman also gave the responsibility to an official who was standing alongside them. "Open it and give. Okay? He will put your name on the list," she said to the woman.
The floods in several states across India have claimed 169 lives so far. In Karnataka itself, the death toll has reached 40 people.
