Nirbhaya Convicts Refused To Eat, Did Not Bathe To Bodies Shifted For Postmortem: All Details Here!

It was a dark and long night for the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape and murder case at Delhi's Tihar Jail. The hanging of the four men took place before dawn on Friday at 5:30 this morning. The execution happened soon after the Supreme Court dismissed the final petition of the convicts.  

The four men involved in India's most brutal case were Akshay Thakur, 31, Pawan Gupta, 25, Vinay Sharma, 26, and Mukesh Singh, 32, who gang-raped and tortured a young medical student on a moving bus in Delhi, 2012.  

Highlighting about the last few hours before their death; the convicts spent their time in isolation, in separate cells, said jail officials. As per a NDTV report, before the execution, the four men refused to eat and were also awake the whole night. They were then alerted at 3:30 am, to get ready and move. 

During they stay in Tihar jail, three convicts- Pawan, Vinay and Mukesh did labour work. So, the money for the work they did will be sent to their families, NDTV further reported. While all their belongings too will be sent to their respective homes.

Soon after the execution, their bodies were kept hanging for 30 minutes as a protocol in Delhi Prison Rule, after which a doctor declared them dead. Hours after their death, the convicts bodies were moved to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital for postmortem. 

At the hospital, a five-member panel will do the post-mortem following which they bodies will be given to their families for final rites.
