A Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Human Resources, Meghna Sahoo is India's first transgender cab driver.
Hailing from Bhubaneshwar, the 30-year-old has become the first trangender driver-partner of cab aggregator Ola. Speaking to ANI, she reveals how she faced a lot of discrimination and rejection due to her gender identity. She switched jobs in the hope of being treated equally to others.
"I struggled to get the same opportunity as others, and it's difficult for transgender people to get jobs and driving training or license," Sahoo told ANI
While getting a job was certainly a difficult task, Meghna said that women passengers felt safe when travelling in her car. "I also didn't face any difficulty with male travellers because of my gender identity, and I feel happy about it," she added
She has appealed to the transgender community to look at driving as a possible career option, in order to become self-reliant.
