Home > News Shots > India newsIn a bizarre and unusual case, a lion was caught eating grass at the Gir forest in Gujarat. The video has surfaced online and has also garnered a discussion on social media.
But this video will not be unusual to wildlife enthusiasts, as lions enjoy their meat but often consume grass due to a reason.
In the video, the lion is seen chewing on to shrubs and herbs on the grassland at the forest. The lion, after consuming the grass threw up by the end of the video.
Many on social media cracked jokes while few explained the reason behind the lion consuming grass stating that the animal often does so to clean its intestines.
"They eat grass and then vomit it to clean intestine," a user said. "All the species of cats eat grass as a natural laxative. Adds fibre and bulk to their diet, helping them to pass worms and fur, bones, feather etc, as they eat both edible and inedible parts of prey," another user said.
Meanwhile, Sandeep Kumar, Deputy Conservator of Forest (DCF), Shetrunji Range, told TOI that "all wild cats consume some grass when their stomach is upset. They eat grass to vomit out some undesirable food they have consumed."
