The floods in Kerala this year were arguably one of the worst natural calamities in recent times. Leaving a massive trail of devastation, torrential rains caused large scale damage to human life and public property. But during dire times the fishermen in the state showed incredible courage while rescuing people.

One such fisherman was James from the Muringoor village of Chalakudy block in the Thrissur district. According to a report in Manorama, James helped rescue hundreds of locals with his boat. Unfortunately, during rescue efforts, his boat gave in and sank.

For fishermen like James, their boat is their only means of livelihood. Life without a boat means they have to start from scratch to catch fish, and make money to support themselves and family. Touched by James' plight, the local panchayat leader decided to help him in the best way he could.

The panchayat leader, along with his NRI friend bought James a brand new wooden boat to start afresh. As per the report, the brand new wooden boat was constructed in a span of one-and-a-half months on a budget of Rs 30,000, at a boat-building centre in Cherai.

During the floods, saving lives was more important for James than his boat. And now his selfless efforts paid off in an incredible way.
