Corona Crisis: Karnataka Govt Clarifies on 'Complete Ban on Entry of People from TN and other Highly infected States'!
Home > News Shots > India newsThe Karnataka govt. has prohibited the entry of people coming from 5 high- risk states via roads. They have also requested Centre to reduce the number of flights arriving from these areas. However, train services will continue to remain as it is.
Earlier, few media reports said that the state cabinet has decided to prohibit people coming from Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan coming through all three modes of entry.
However, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yedyiruppa clarified that the ban is applicable only for road transport.
"We hereby clarify that there is no ban on flights and trains to Karnataka. But we have requested the central government to restrict the number of flights from high-risk states. While entry by road stays prohibited, trains that are already running will continue to do so," the chief minister said in a social media post.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs JC Madhuswamy told the media earlier that "Karnataka has appealed to the Civil Aviation Ministry to take steps to lessen the air traffic to the state, as there may not be adequate quarantine facilities to handle a huge turnout at a short span of time," he added.
The decision was taken while keeping in view, the recent surge in number of COVID19 cases in Karnataka. Several states have registered similar spikes in cases as soon as lockdown restrictions were eased.
