Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan has now hinted at the possibility of keeping his options open in terms of political alliance. The Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) chief was speaking at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.

On being asked about the possibility of an alliance with the BJP, Haasan said, “If my DNA is not going to be tampered with, then no one is politically untouchable.”

Speaking at the event, Haasan also seemed keen on not spoiling his relationship with the Congress, as he said that he saw Rahul Gandhi as a possibility for the country.

Haasan's statement is particularly significant when we look at all the non-BJP leaders he has met over the last few months. He met Rahul Gandhi in June this year and discussed the political situation in Tamil Nadu.

Haasan was also quizzed on his fellow actor Rajinikanth. Asked to make a pitch to the people of Tamil Nadu on why they should choose him over Rajinikanth, Haasan said, “People should choose the right candidate and not personality.”

“Tamil Nadu deserves its place within India. We could have been there 30-40 years ago. My goal right now is Tamil Nadu,” Haasan reiterated.
