Men from defence background have always won hearts with their love for the people and country. Recently, an Indian Naval officer earned a lot of praise for his courage on social media after he saved a man from drowning at a beach in Kerala. The victim has been identified as Dileep Kumar who hails from Aurangabad.

According to a Facebook post by Indian Navy, Lieutenant Rahul Dalal was at Vypeen beach with his wife on the evening of April 5. At around 4:10 PM, he noticed a person struggling in the water. The man was crying for help and none of the people present on the beach were able to help the victim.

In minutes, Dalal came into action and ran towards the drowning man and rescued him. But it took almost 25 minutes for him to bring the drowning man back to the shore due to the strong sea currents.

The detailed Facebook post read as, “the officer also had to deal with the desperate and panicked victim who was pulling him down, putting both their lives in danger. The officer calmed the victim and made him hold onto his shoulders, after which he started swimming towards the beach. Lt Dalal mustered all his strength and managed to reach the shore with the help of some locals.”

Once Dalal managed to reach the shore with the victim, he was not breathing and was unconscious. The officer did a quick inspection of the victim’s mouth and found that some plants were choking his air passage. He went on to clear the passage and also performed a cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), which revived the patient back to breathing. He was later taken to a nearby hospital for immediate medical care.
