India Gets Its First Homegrown Dating App For The LGBTQ Community
Home > India newsThings are slowly starting to get better for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) community in India. While the striking down of section 377 was a huge step, there is still a long road ahead. More than anything else, mindsets and perspectives need to change if everyone is to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Just like everyone else, people from the community have the same right to date and be in a relationship with whomsoever they wish. And it’s only fair that they get a safe space to do so!
In a welcome move, India now has a dating application dedicated for people from the LGBT community. The Delta App is India’s first homegrown LGBT app for meeting and dating people.
‘Simplify the process of meeting like-minded people with us as we allow you to make new friends, start a fling, join chat rooms, access support and discussion or kickstart an endearing relationship’, states the description of the app.
The app aims to provide a safe and secure environment for people from the LGBTQ community to date and network. It has a trust score system where people get perks for creating more trustworthy profiles. It also has a ‘Delta Network’, that allows people to find the nearest LGBTQ-inclusive spaces from hotels, restaurants and bars to businesses and other places of socialising.
Users of this app have complete control over who sees their profile and how much of their data is visible, and also who can have a conversation with them. Available on Google Play Store, the app is free to download, but states that users below the age of 18 are not allowed.
With mainstream apps like Tinder introducing 23 new gender options, it looks like we’re slowly expanding our horizons and learning to accept what we’ve been doing wrong all this while.
