A 13-year-old gang-rape victim from Kanpur has allegedly committed suicide by hanging because the accused were not arrested and a few women from the neighbourhood were taunting her on the incident.

The girl was allegedly abducted and raped on July 13 by three teenage boys from the same locality. Her parents filed a complaint in Raipurwa police station on July 27 after she narrated the ordeal to them.

City Superintendent of Police (east) Raj Kumar Agarwal said no suicide note was discovered from the spot, however, the family of the girl alleges that she was disturbed over police inaction and neighbours’ comments. The body was sent to post-mortem and an immediate inquiry has been ordered into the matter.

He further said Station House Office Satya Dev Sharma, Cooperganj police post in-charge Umesh Kumar, Head Constable Urmed Singh and Constable Sanjiv Gautam have been suspended for negligence in work and three neighbours have been booked on charges of abatement of suicide.
